Gellért Hill is a popular part of Budapest, with its extraordinary views of the city and Danube River. A citadel sits at the top of the hill, and there’s also a cave within the hill that enhances its tourist-worthy appeal. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site much celebrated for its beauty as well as its palatial embassies and ambassador residences.
I think there is where my friend Bill went in 2004 to view the Danube River with a series of stunning bridges. I forgot about this until I got back to Steinbach. So I missed out again, but did see the hill from below.
The hill was named after St. Gerard who was killed by pagans in a rebellion in 1046 and rolled down the hill to his death. That’s sort of a high price to have a hill named after you.
